Once a startups first product is successful, the second product they bring to market should have the potential to be bigger than the first product if successful.
Two examples that come to mind:
Company 1: SpaceX
SpaceX started with the falcon rocket, capable of bringing a small payload to low-earth orbit.
Their subsequent products include Starlink, (which could potentially be bigger than SpaceX’s launch market in and of itself), and Starship, which literally has the goal of sending humans and cargo to Mars.
Company 2: Workday
Workday started as a company offering recruiting software. Eventually, they built an entire HCM platform, and now they provide an ERP platform to customers as well.
Both subsequent products are bigger than the first. Workday has become even more successful and is a large enterprise software company now.
