Who Remembers the Gameboy Color?

Speaking of mobile gaming… who remembers the Gameboy Color? Between the years of 2002 and 2004, this little purple game console changed the lives of so many 90’s kids just like us.

Mobile games have come a long way.. Isn’t it interesting that both Gameboy AND smart phones share generally the same rectangular shape? It’s almost as if we’ve come full circle, right?

Before you reach for your smartphones for the next round of whatever game you just downloaded from the App Store, I hope this short video brings just a bit of nostalgia, and reminds you of quieter, simpler times in mobile gaming.

After years in a dusty drawer of my parents house, I can’t say I surprised that it will not turn on. Yes, I am heartbroken and need to find a Gameboy repair shop right away. But in a way, this is just evidence as to WHY obsolete technology gets replaced. It’s old and unreliable. So as sentimental as that video might make you and I feel, we can rest easy knowing that we’ve moved on to bigger and better games.

As we approach 2020, futuristic technology innovation will be present as always. Here’s a prediction for the day: Devices that fold will be a thing of the past. Before you know it, we’ll ALL be saying goodbye to folding laptops. Instead, we will likely carry some ambiguous smartphone/tablet-like device… used with any number from a suite of controllers of our choosing… bluetooth keyboards and mice, styluses, aux game controllers, and even just our fingers.

Merry Christmas mobile gamers.

Happy gaming to all, and to all a good night.

Why Fortnite Post-Game Analysis is a MUST for Mobile Players

In Fortnite Mobile, analyzing the elims you both deal AND take can be invaluable to developing your technique as a player.

Doing a Fortnite post-game analysis will not only show you what you did wrong during gameplay, but it can also be valuable to help you realize where your opportunities are to improve.

1. Discover Weak Points

You’ll notice your weak points. A common theme in the play by play analysis video is that he was SLOW to build up. Realizing this can give you ideas for how to improve your build speed and flow.

For example, you could take time to play Fortnite Creative and actually practice building.

Another idea to improve your build speed is by switching up your mobile button position using the HUD layout tool. One thing you can do is actually ADD an extra action button to the side of the screen opposite your look control. That way, by holding down build action, you can quickly look in a sweeping circle motion to build a surrounding enclosure.

2. Analyze Unfavorable FNM Situations

You’ll see what you did to put yourself in an unfavorable Fortnite situation. For example, staying in the same general area for too long will eventually allow other players to realize where you are located.

When your spot gets blown, its identified by more than a few players on the map. By doing so you put yourself at a BIG risk of being attacked by multiple players at one time. While this can be thrilling and makes for an exciting, action-packed game, keep in mind that other players will find you.

3. The small details

The small points are easy to forget to do in the heat of the moment during gameplay. For example:

  • Jumping while running
  • Re-loading during down time, before the action hits.
  • Not switching to a close range weapon like the tactical shotgun when necessary.
  • Not stocking up on resources given the chance
  • Forgetting to check the attics for weapons

4. What works

Remember what went well. Maybe you had a few mid-range AR scopes that just clicked?

Did pick a really good drop point on the map? Did you drop early or late?

Did you move to the new circle early? Doing so may have helped you loot additional buildings before the players further outside.

Ultimately, re-watching your Fortnite games can be really helpful if you want to get better. While it can be annoying to record your screen and have to find a way to store large files (delete them later), its definitely worth it.

The video below provides a short example of play by play post-game analysis, taken from a few clips of Fortnite Mobile gameplay.

Fortnite Snowball Launcher is SO POWERFUL

The Fortnite Snowball Launcher is a legendary explosive weapon for the holiday event. It’s quite powerful within mid-range distances. The Snowball Launcher in Fortnite is difficult to defend against for a few reasons:

Snowball Launcher is a
holiday event explosive
weapon.
  1. Splash Damage: Aside from just dealing a lot of damage, the weapon is considered an “explosive”, which means it has a large area of impact. If you are in range, this means it is very difficult to avoid getting taking the hit if someone uses it on you.
    • Even if a snowball does not land directly on you, it will still deal damage if you are located within its wide impact area.
  2. No Ammo: the Snowball launcher does not have ammo, but a simple refresh period of a few seconds before firing another shot. This means it can be used over and over.
  3. Strength: Because the Snowball Launcher is considered a “Legendary” weapon, it deals a significant amount of damage by design.
  4. The snowball launcher will destroy structures, making it difficult to continue building up.
  5. Range: Whereas the rocket launcher is more effective for long-range targets, the snowball launcher lobs the explosives over a mid-range distance, which is a quite common zone of attack during game play.

In the video below, we go through a live-game situation where we were eliminated by an opponent using the Snowball Launcher. We analyze the weapon’s uses and effects, and bring up a few strategic plays to defend against the weapon and avoid dying. either building up heavily or fleeing.
